When people think of Atlantis in The Bahamas, they usually picture the iconic coral-colored towers, the sprawling water park, or maybe even celebrities vacationing in the Caribbean sun. But for me, my recent stay at Atlantis was about something a little different: the feeling of walking into a space that makes you stop and say, yes, this is exactly what I needed.

I checked into The Royal Tower West, which has recently undergone a massive renovation. The Royal is one of the most recognizable landmarks in all of Paradise Island, and its redesign breathes new life into what was already a legendary hotel. Instead of feeling like a generic resort room, the new design leans into The Bahamas’ natural beauty. The color palette alone — cool blues, soft greys, and warm ivories — felt like an extension of the ocean and sky just outside my window.

What makes this tower particularly special is its history. The Royal is home to the Michael Jackson suite, one of Atlantis’ most famous accommodations. While I didn’t stay there, just knowing I was in the same building added to the sense of occasion.

Of course, the amenities didn’t disappoint. My room had all the essentials you’d expect — a spacious bathroom, plenty of closet space with a safe, a flat-screen TV, and a mini-fridge. But what stood out most was the thoughtful attention to detail. For me, mirrors are a non-negotiable when I travel and this room had them in abundance, including full-length ones.

Then there was the view. From my balcony, I looked out directly over Aquaventure, Atlantis’ 141-acre water park with slides, lazy rivers, and lagoons. Every morning, I’d step outside, coffee in hand, and just take in the scene: families splashing around, the sound of water rushing from the slides, and the sun glittering across the pools. It was both energizing and peaceful — the kind of view that makes you linger a little longer before starting your day.

Staying at The Royal also meant I was in the center of everything. The Dig, Atlantis’ world-renowned marine habitat, was just steps away. The casino, shops, and restaurants were within easy reach. I loved that I could leave my room and be instantly surrounded by energy, yet still retreat to a private space that felt serene and restorative. For anyone planning a trip, I’d recommend packing light but smart — a set of packing cubes for your luggage, a portable charger, and a durable fanny pack for travel on the go make all the difference.

My time in The Bahamas was short but unforgettable and The Royal played a big part in that.
