When you live in New York City and work as both a journalist and content creator, invitations to unique events pop up often. The reality is, I can’t make it to all of them. But last week, I had the chance to finally step into the U.S. Open buzz in a way I’ve never done before.
I joined InterContinental New York Barclay’s exclusive U.S. Open celebration inside the Harold S. Vanderbilt Penthouse Suite. Perched above Midtown Manhattan, with skyline views of the Chrysler Building lighting up the evening, the energy felt as vibrant as the tournament itself.
Guests mingled over light bites and cocktails, all while waiting for the highlight of the evening: a table tennis challenge with U.S. Open star Amanda Anisimova. Watching her switch from tennis courts to ping-pong paddles was such a fun twist—and yes, a few brave attendees gave it a try. Some lucky winners even walked away with autographed memorabilia through the raffle.
For me, it wasn’t just about the glam setting (though the penthouse views are reason enough to attend). It was about soaking in a moment that bridges the excitement of the U.S. Open with New York’s love for celebration and culture.
I also used the night to sport one of my favorite pair of Zenni glasses—because let’s be real, events like this call for a mix of chic and comfortable. These are from the Transitions Gen S line and I love them because they give you the protection you need outside without changing what you see. I can't even tell when the transition happens unless I look in a mirror LOL.
This was my very first U.S. Open–related event and it made me realize how much more there is to the tournament than just the matches in Queens. It really is a cultural moment in New York. Maybe next year, I'll finally get to attend a match too.
